tries for the grand, unified almost quasi-religious theory. He has this enthusiastic notion that man will return to a state of innocence somehow through the magic windows of electronic media— we will all go back to Eden, or some kind of reasonable facsimile of Eden. I believe one of his phrases is that, “All work will become play and all play will become work and there will not be the alienation—people will not be alienated from one another,” and so on. It’s the utopian view, and when he gets into those reaches of the imagination I find it difficult to follow, but I always find utopias difficult to follow especially when I don’t know how to operate.
